Winnipeg is the capital city of the province of Manitoba, and is ranked as Canada's sixth sunniest city year-round. The interesting patch you see to our right belongs to the Winnipeg Chapter of the Southern Cruisers Riding Club, a family friendly motorcycle rider's club dedicated to riding safety and fellowship. The Winnipeg chapter is the only one so far in Manitoba, but they say they hope to branch out into other locales in the near future.
So how did the Southern Cruisers Riding Club get started?
Rick "Rickster" Perry, who later became the Founder and President, decided to buy a new bike and to start riding again after being out of Motorcycling for almost 15 years. But he still felt as though there were something missing from the riding experience: The Brotherhood of Biking. Inspired to change this, he started a Riding Club in the Memphis area. He got a few people together and came up with the name Southern Cruisers Riding Club. The new club allowed bikers to ride together and “share the thrill of Motorcycling in a manner that was acceptable to all.”
Not long after this, they worked on designing their first club patch. They went through about a dozen different designs before agreeing on the current SCRC Club Patch, which can be seen on the Southern Cruisers website.
Fifteen years later, they have Chapters spread all across the United States and even outside the United States, totaling over 40,000 members worldwide. They, as well as the Winnipeg Chapter, are growing faster than ever before.
The Winnipeg Chapter of SCRC first purchased custom patches for souvenirs of their cross Canada get-together, the artwork being shown to the left. The second time, it was with the intent of identifying members of their local chapter.
The green local chapter patches, shown above, are worn on the front of a jacket or vest to show membership in the Winnipeg Chapter. The souvenir patches are worn in the same manner, showing someone attended the event.
Paul "Tiny" Elshoff, founder of the Winnipeg Chapter says, “We are very satisfied with all aspects of both of our orders from Stadri and plan on using their services again whenever the need arises.”
